Pickering Barn

A Night at the Derby, Maple Hills Auction, will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Pickering Barn in Issaquah, WA.  We are pleased to present this community event as a way to raise funds for school programs funded by the Maple Hills PTA.  Continuing information will be provided through many sources, including kid-mail, the PTA newsletter, frequent website updates, and social media posts.

Frequently Asked Auction Questions

What is a school auction and why are we having one?

The Maple Hills Elementary School PTA auction is held every other school year with the intention of raising funds to enhance our children’s learning and school experience.  The auction is a significant source of income that provides funding for two school-years’ worth of educational enrichment and social events.

Who can come?

Anyone wishing to support Maple Hills elementary is welcome!  A majority of attendees will be staff and families, but we encourage extended family, alumni, and community members to join us for this special occasion! This event is an adults-only evening, and no childcare is provided, so please plan accordingly!

What can parents and/or caregivers do to help?

Attend!  This event would be nothing without you!

As with all PTA activities, volunteers are the backbone of this event!  We will need help with everything from envelope stuffing to setup and event tasks on the night of the auction.  No amount of time and effort is too small.  Please let us know if you would like to help!

The most important part of any auction is the procurement of a wide variety of quality goods and services to help us earn money and reach our fundraising goal.  If you have any resources or community connections where you can request a donation for our auction, please let us know!   Think of the places you routinely visit.  Would they be able to provide goods or services that would be of value to one of our auction guests?

What type of items should we procure?

Be creative!  Think of items that would get your attention!  Gift cards to local shops and restaurants, handyman or home improvement services, a weekend at your vacation cabin or timeshare, tickets to an event… The list is as long as your imagination makes it!

Where are procurement forms?

Procurement forms will be located in the office on the shelf below the volunteer sign-in area as well as occasionally sent home via kid-mail.  You may also fill out the form under the tab, "What do YOU want to bet on" on our auction site.

What are the Classroom Projects?

As a way of including our kids in the auction, each classroom will complete a unique piece of art or project with the help of parent and staff volunteers.  These one-of-a-kind items will be offered up for bid during our live auction.  These sentimental pieces make a huge contribution to our fundraiser and the kids are very proud of their collaborative creations!

What happens at the auction?

You will receive everything you need to participate in the fun when you check in, which starts at 5:00pm.  Silent Auction bidding will begin when doors open as you enjoy our cocktail hour and hors-d’oeuvres.  Once the silent auction is complete, guests move to the dining area, where they will enjoy a delicious dinner, followed by the competitive bidding excitement of the live auction, professionally hosted by auctioneer and Liberty parent, Fred Granados.

What do I wear?

Yes it’s a fundraiser, but this night can also be a fashion show.  With a Derby theme, how can you not dress the part?  All kidding aside, there is no dress code so please wear what makes you comfortable!  Some guests may be arriving straight from work, while others may like to dress up.  The most important part is your attendance and support!

Can I sit where I want?

When you register online you have the option to reserve a table with your friends or you can just purchase your own seats and we will place you with other attendees.  In order to reserve a table as a group you can either purchase a table at one time or “name” your reservation and allow your friends to use your table “name” to reserve seats with you. Keep in mind that each table accommodates 8 guests.   If you need assistance, please contact us.
